Brotbox

Hennermanns Horde

The school bell sounds, it’s break time and some children take out their bread boxes. What is in there today? Is their box half full or half empty? Are the contents tasty or yucky? What do the others have? And where is that delicious smell coming from?

As a regular part of everyday life, food can have differnt meanings for children, just as it does for adults. It is supposed to be satisfying, pleasurable and look attractive. It is a basic need and can therefore simply be a way of taking on nourishment or it can be made a conscious process. But what do I like and dislike? What am I allowed to eat? What happens in my body when I swallow my food? And who is still aware of the land of milk and honey?

The dance production "Brotbox"(“Breadbox”), for children of primary school age and above, focusses on the theme of nutrition and the body. With three dancers from a background in contemporary and so-called “urban dance”, Hennermanns Horde embarks on an artistic search for the motif of “growing up big and strong”, bumping into rules, myths, differences and things we have in common.
