The One-Dimensional Man turns 50!

Andreas Spechtl

A multi-faceted birthday celebration – 50 years ago, Herbert Marcuse, member of the Frankfurt School of critical theory, published The One-Dimensional Man. But never fear. This is no academic evening, no agitprop theatre and no teaching play, as the cast – the multiply gifted Thomas Ebermann, Kristof Schreuf, Andreas Spechtl and Robert Stadlober – present songs based on the themes and theories of Marcuse. Highly unacademic recitations, dialogues and discussions, whether and why the philosopher may or may not have been wrong. However, the ensemble makes no effort to conceal that many a one-dimensional perspective may have taken hold of some of its members.
