Saxophonist and composer Trygve Seim elicits sounds from old saxophones and wooden mouthpieces that only few dare play – a new musical space between Indian bamboo flute, Armenian duduk and saxophone. Featuring an ensemble of contrabass, piano, drums and saxophone, “Helsinki Songs” is excellent jazz, which melodically and calmly expands and extends its own range: music as a universal language that merges the soundscapes of the Norwegian fjords and the quiet of Scandinavia with Arabic influences and the vibrancy of India’s megacities. Trygve Seim’s saxophone harmoniously leads through the beauty and the melodious arcs of this cosmos. In 2001, his debut album “Different Rivers” was awarded the “Annual Prize of the German Record Critics”.
