Neues Werk (2021)

Ensemble Modern, Rabih Lahoud and Florian Weber

Jazz meets new music, notated music meets improvised moments, East meets West. In this Sunday matinee the jazz pianist Florian Weber and the Lebanese vocalist Rabih Lahoud meet six musicians from the Ensemble Modern: artists who are constantly on the lookout for surprising stimuli, other musical cultures and opportunities for free musical communication. Rabih Lahoud has lived in Germany for many years and is committed to the theme of ‘encounters’. He is a member of the band MASAA, whose work shifts between contemporary jazz, world music, oriental sounds and Arab poetry. The Ensemble Modern recently completed a project with Florian Weber, a pianist with varied interests who revels in experimentation, inspired by Arnold Schönberg’s ‘Coalition Chess’, a series of pieces that combine composed structures with improvised spontaneity.
