Antanzen – Voguing

Panama 007

The “Antanzen” format of the Tanzplattform Rhein Main, already popular in Darmstadt and Wiesbaden, is celebrating a small premiere by taking place at Mousonturm for the first time. Starting in January 2023, new forms of movement will be presented every two months. The aim is to try things out, discover new dance styles and learn more about their history and origins. Choreographers and dance teachers from the large independent contemporary dance scene are invited to teach; whether it be contemporary dance, voguing and whacking, lyrical, house, popping and locking or ballet. We want the entire breadth of the dancing community to be represented. The first and second dates will focus on voguing, a dance style that emerged in Harlem, New York in the early 1970s. Marginalised by the white and heterosexual dominant society, Black and Latinx people from the LGBTIQ+ community came together in so-called ballrooms, spaces where they could feel safe, where they founded surrogate families (so-called “houses”), danced and performed playfully with and against each other.
