Johnny Allen Hendrix was born in Seattle on 27 November 1942. His hometown became the birthplace of grunge in the 1990s with bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. They all had Jimi Hendrix in their ears. He came from black rhythm and blues, but brought experimentation and innovation to music with his style of guitar playing. As a left-hander, he played a guitar for right-handers, simply turned it around so that the highest string was suddenly up. Feedback and frequency overlays were part of his sound, and his performance of the US national anthem “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Woodstock Festival in 1969 will never be forgotten. Gregor Praml and guests are now honouring this incomparable rock icon with a LOKAL Listener Special in the form of a concert talk night: singer and actress Katharina Bach has thrilled the Schauspiel Frankfurt with a Nick Cave evening and is now lending her voice to Hendrix. She is assisted by a guitarist who she has worked with for a long time: Tomek Witiak. Hip-hop is Bosca's musical home. The rapper is a declared Eintracht fan and will take on a cover version for the first time. Cellist Christopher Herrmann and Burkard Kunkel on bass clarinet, basset horn and zither are among the most innovative instrumentalists in the region between jazz, classical and world music. Wolf Schubert-K. is probably closest to Hendrix as a folk and blues musician. The young Frankfurt band Sun's Sons has a real Hendrix fan in its own ranks in guitarist Marius Wunderlich. With their indie sound, they make Jimi sound completely different. An evening at Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm for a somewhat different Jimi Hendrix experience.
