Renaming of Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University in Karl Marx University

In 2018, we celebrate the birthday of 1968 – for a whole year. Normally, un-birthdays are celebrated all year round: on every day, except one. That one day this year is 5 May: when Karl Marx turns 200 years old. In 1968, students from Frankfurt occupied the University of Frankfurt in his honour and renamed it “Karl Marx University”. In 2018, the performance collective andcompany&Co., who once started out from the Bockenheimer Depot, work their way straight through the paradoxes of this commemorative year. First public stop is a un-birthday happening, reminding us that Marx wrote “Capital” at the same time as Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland”.
